Muscat: Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai’s portrait was unveiled at the National Portrait Gallery in London recently.
Malala’s father, Ziauddin Yousafzai took to Twitter on Monday to announce the news, and shared that the portrait of his daughter by artist Shirin Nishat has a poem inscribed on it. The poem is written by Rahmat Shah Sayel in Pushto, a regional language in Pakistan, titled ‘To the Malala of the Maiwand on her rebirth’.
“Portrait of Malala by Shirin Nishat unveiled at NPG London. The poem inscribed on the portrait is written by the great Pushto poet Rahmat Shah Sayel. We are grateful to the artist for creating this wonderful piece of art depicting strength, resilience and courage,” Ziauddin wrote on Twitter.
He later shared the translation of the poem as well.

In 2014, Malala became the youngest Nobel laureate, honoured for her work with the Malala Foundation, a charity she set up to support education advocacy groups with a focus on Pakistan, Nigeria, Jordan, Syria, and Kenya.
The 21-year-old is currently studying at Oxford University and is an advocate for girls' education.
