Muscat: A fire in the Sultanate has left a company with a hefty bill of OMR200,000 in damages, a statement on Muscat Securities Market’s (MSM) website read.
According to the statement posted by SMN Power Holdings, the fire started in a low-voltage switch room at their water desalination property — Barka II station.
“During the weekend, a small fire started in the low-voltage switch room at Barka II Station. There were no injuries and no hazardous substances were released,” the company said.
The fire damaged the low-voltage circuit breakers controlling the water desalination plant and subsequently, the plant had to be shut down.
"The site operations and maintenance team have started restoring activities immediately, in order to bring the plant back in operation as soon as possible. The estimated financial impact to date amounts to OMR 200,000,” the company added.
