Oman sees vehicle registrations fall by almost 40 per cent in August

Muscat: As many as 4,425 vehicles were registered in August this year, down 38.6 per cent from the number of vehicles registered in the same period of 2017, as indicated by the statistics released by the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The figure does not include export, import and temporary inspection vehicles.
The number of private vehicles topped the list of registrations in August 2018, reaching 3,041 vehicles, down 45.6 per cent from the same period of 2017.
This was followed by commercial vehicles, which numbered 1,021, down 10.8 per cent from the figure recorded in the same period last year.
The total number of rented vehicles registered during the month of August this year was 272, which was a decrease by 14.7 per cent compared to the same period in 2017. There was a drop in the number of taxis and motorbikes registered in August this year by 52.4 per cent and 51.2 per cent, respectively, compared to the same month last year.
Only 3 diplomatic vehicles and 10 government vehicles were registered in August 2018, revealing a drop of 72.7% and 16.7 per cent, respectively, compared to 2017. The number of driving school vehicles registered reached 17, and only one tractor was registered in August this year.
The total number of registered vehicles on the road until the end of August 2018 reached 1,478,841.
