Customs in Oman foils several smuggling attempts

Muscat: Omani border security has foiled several attempts to smuggle drugs and alcoholic bevarages through various parts of the country.

According to Oman Customs, "Officers at Muscat International Airport seized more than 2,400 psychotropic tablets and 2.6 kilograms of Marijuana."

Meanwhile, in the ports of Musandam, North Al Batinah and Al Buraimi, customs officers foiled a number of operations to smuggle "alcoholic beverages, illegal cigarettes, and chewable tobacco," Oman Customs said in a statement online.

In another incident, the Department of Investigation and Risk Assessment targeted a number of storage sites in Muscat, which resulted in 1,290 bottles of wine being confiscated, in addition to 1,788 illegal cigarettes and 823 kilograms of chewable tobacco," Oman Customs added.
