Muscat: Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) signed a cooperation programme on Sunday with Omani Qatari Telecommunications Company (Ooredoo), to enhance cooperation in the fields that related to directing and assisting SQU students and graduates in developing their employment skills and preparing them for labour market requirements.
This will be achieved through the company’s participation in providing and supporting guidance and awareness programmes implemented at the university.
Ooredoo will provide consultancy services and technical support to the Centre of Career Guidance in career guidance and employment coaching. This will be done through implementing four workshops during 2018, for the programme “Starting Point for Empowerment of Women”, a global programme launched by the British Council with the aim of developing the skills of female students and graduates in terms of development self-empowerment and giving them confidence. The company also allocates 100 free seats for students and graduates of the university to participate in the programme.
The company’s specialists will also participate in the presentation of the workshops on topics related to the required skills and preparation for the labour market.
On the other hand, the university represented by the Centre of Career Guidance will provide classrooms and other spatial needs.
The agreement was signed by Prof. Amer bin Ali Al Rowas, Deputy Vice chancellor for Academic Affairs and Community Service, SQU, and Amaal bint Hussain bin Abdul Khaliq, Chief Executive Officer, Customer Experience at Omani Qatari Telecommunications Company (Ooredoo).
It is worth mentioning that the Career Guidance Centre is the link between the university and various sectors of employment and placements, which organises many events and programmes in the field of career guidance, to educate students and graduates about the labour markets and requirements, and develop their skills.
