Mass wedding in Oman in November

Muscat: A group wedding will be held in Al Seeb in November to help young Omanis cut the high cost of marriage.
The ceremony, which will take place on November 23, will be organised by the Social Development Committee in Wilayat of Seeb and is expected to cost between OMR20,000 and 25,000.
“The aim of this group wedding is to help ease the cost that comes with organising a wedding, and to encourage youngsters to get married,” said Hilal Al Sarmi, representative of Seeb in the Shura Council and the head of the organising committee.
Al Sarmi added, “We are also hoping that organising such an event will bring members of the community closer.”
According to organisers, the event will also include national day celebrations.
“We are hoping to get 48 grooms to apply so that it can be linked to 48 years since the first National Day,” they said.
Some of the conditions to register include that the groom must be an Omani citizen and members of Wilayat Seeb will be given priority, the groom must not have another wife, and a deposit of OMR200 must be paid to guarantee a spot.
“The deposit will be returned to the grooms, as this event will be free of charge; in fact, we will be providing them with gifts worth more than OMR300,” Al Sarmi said. The marriage ceremony will take place on the first day, followed by the wedding reception on the following day. “We will be providing all the sweets, and dinner for both days and will cover all the costs,” Al Sarmi added.
Grooms will be able to invite up to 50 friends and family members. “We have not announced the location of the reception yet, even though we are working hard to find a venue that would be able to accommodate the high number of expected guests,” said Al Sarmi.
The group wedding was announced on September 9 and the committee has already received eight applications. “Many businesses have shown their support to the event by offering to provide gifts for the grooms, but we are hoping that more businesses will participate in the event,” Al Sarmi added.
