Muscat: Close to 400 samples of food and water have been collected from schools in Ibri over the last three months, the Directorate General of Regional Municipality and Water Resources has announced.
Between May and August, approximately 392 food and water samples were examined by the municipalities of Ibri, Yanqul and Dhank.
According to the statement by the Ministry of Regional Municipality and Water Resources (MRMWR), “a total of 194 samples of food were tested and 29 failed to meet the required standards."
“Meanwhile, a total of 198 water samples were tested, out of which 40 samples failed to meet the required standards,” the statement added.
According to the ministry, "the inspections were carried out in order to ensure that establishments comply with health requirements and also to make sure that quality standards are followed in the food industry.”
The aim of the food and water test is to detect the level of safety and compliance with health standards, in addition to making sure that it is fit for human consumption.
The laboratory carried out various visits to public and private schools in the governorate, in order to raise awareness to specialists about the need to perform tests of water and food. In addition the laboratory received samples from these institutions.
