Muscat: Seven new wells are now being operated in the Wadi Al Ain field, Al Masarat basin in the Al Dhahirah governorate, the Public Authority for Electricity and Water (Diam) announced.
The wells will provide an adequate supply and will cover the increasing demand for water in the Governorate.
The total number of wells in the field will now come up to 57, with a capacity of more than 1500 cubic metres per hour.
In a statement online, Diam said, "The addition of these wells will help cover the increasing demand for water and will also ensure water sustainability in the province.
"These wells will achieve good results in light of the increasing consumption of water that was witnessed during the recent period. [This increase in the use of water was caused due to] a drought in the wells and the citizens’ dependence on the Al Masarat basin as the main source of water."
