SEZAD Chairman discuss Japanese industrial city in Duqm

Tokyo: Kentaro Sonoura Japanese Prime Minister’s Special Advisor received in his Office in Tokyo on Monday Yahya bin Said bin Abdullah Al Jabri, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Special Economic Zone Authority of Duqm (SEZAD).
During the meeting, they discussed the establishment of a Japanese industrial city in Duqm. SEZAD Chairman of the Board of Directors urged the Japanese side to invest at SEZAD, indicating the investment advantages and economic importance of the region and its ability to keep up with the aspirations of Japanese investors, adding that Duqm is located near Japan’s major markets in Asia and Africa and Japanese companies can set up factories in the region.
He also stressed the importance of the strategic location of Duqm, away from the Straits of Hormuz and near the consumer markets in Asia, Africa and the GCC countries. He also pointed to a number of projects currently under way in the region, such as the Ras Markaz Oil Storage Station, explaining the economic importance of this plant, and also addressed the other landmarks of SEZAD, such as the Duqm Port, the Dry Dock, Duqm Airport and other projects.
For his part, Kentaro Sonoura, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan, welcomed the proposal and promised to study it with Japanese specialists and companies, praising the good relations between the Sultanate and Japan and expressing his satisfaction with the talks he held in the Sultanate during his visit earlier this month, which included a visit to SEZAD.
He added “We support the economic cooperation between the two countries and we encourage Japanese companies to invest in the Sultanate. We look forward to seeing in the future the increasing number of Japanese companies operating in the Sultanate.”
At the end of the meeting, it was agreed to form a working group from SEZAD and the Japanese side to discuss the proposal to establish a Japanese industrial city in Duqm.
On the other hand, Yuriko Koike, Mayor of Tokyo, received Yahya bin Said Al Jabri, SEZAD Chairman of Board of Directors.
The two sides reviewed in the meeting the growing economic relations between the Sultanate and Japan. Yahya bin Said al- Jabri submitted an explanation about on SEZAD and the nature of the investment climate and the projects it is witnessing.
He explained that SEZAD is working to make Duqm a city that meets the aspirations of investors in work, living and accommodation and meet all the requirements of modern life. He pointed out in this regard that the region includes a number of integrated logistics services, such as Duqm Port, and Duqm Airport and roads linking the region, in addition to touristic region and the residential and commercial quarters.
