Indian School Darsait celebrates teachers day with fanfare

Muscat: Indian School Darsait (ISD) organised a Teachers’ Day celebration with great zeal and enthusiasm.
In the senior section, the celebration began with a special assembly conducted by the Class XI students to honour the teachers and to extend a befitting tribute to their dedication and devotion to the profession. A variety entertainment programme including a vibrant dance, a party game, a touching skit that depicted the life and values of a teacher, felicitations and a group song marked the occasion.
Visual treat
The Teachers’ Day special assembly was a visual treat for the entire audience. Principal Dr. Sridevi P Thashnath paid a rich tribute to the teachers, and recalled her own teachers, starting with her mother who was her first teacher. She stated, “The influence of a teacher is not confined to the schooling years but permeates throughout the lives of the students.”
Similarly, the primary section of the school too celebrated the day when the Class V students took over as teachers to enact their role.
Other highlights of the day were a skit that displayed the emotional bond between students and teachers, rendition of a musical medley and a scintillating dance
performance.
The celebration reached its peak when the tiny tots and teachers immersed themselves in lilting music and dance. Many students including the tiny tots could be seen felicitating and thanking the teachers with handmade cards.
The day had an emotional and recreational touch. The students of Class XI themselves conducted all the preparations with energy and excitement, and greeted the teachers. As a part of Self Governance Day, the students of Class XII took over as school administrators and teachers and played their role well. The day lived up to its name, Self Governance Day, in which the Class XII and V students took over the running of the respective sections of the school throughout the day and proved their mettle through the smooth conduct of
the school.
True to the meaning of the words “ISD Family”, the entire staff with their spouses and children organised a get-together under the aegis of the SMC. It was a great evening to honour the teaching fraternity and to strengthen the rapport among all the “ISD Family” members.
The programme commenced with a grand tribute to the educators—the Nation Builders—wherein the ISD teachers were received at the auditorium with thunderous applause followed by the lighting of the lamp and a special segment portraying the symbolic passing of the light of knowledge from the head teacher—the Principal—to all the other teachers.
Jaikish Pavithran, President SMC, welcomed the gathering by reminiscing his teacher’s influence on him right from primary school through the years he spent in college.
He also commended the noble efforts of ISD teachers in moulding children to become productive human beings. He urged the teachers to adapt to the changes that happen in the field of education.
The Chief Guest, Afroz Ahmad, Treasurer & Head Staff Welfare & Grievances, Subcommittee, acknowledged the role of a teacher through the words of Malala Yousafzai “One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world.”
Video presentation
The president and members of SMC felicitated the teachers with gift coupons. P.V Gopinath, veteran art teacher, and Gayathri Narasimhan, special educator, were honoured for their achievements. The gathering witnessed a mesmerising video presentation, accentuating teachers, and a musical medley of foot-tapping songs.
Thashnath highlighted the warm tradition of the “Guru Shishya”, through which teachers empower students, and she emphasised that no technology can replace the bond between the teacher and the taught. She reiterated, “The greatest gift for a teacher is the love, warmth and reverence that she receives throughout her life from her students. The best way to honour your teachers is to remember them, meet and greet them with veneration even after you have completed your education.” She expressed her gratitude to the School Management Committee and thanked the entire ISD family for their munificent presence.
