South Carolina braces for Hurricane Florence

Florence intensified into a hurricane on Sunday and was expected to strengthen rapidly as it churned across the Atlantic Ocean.

It threatened to make landfall on the U.S. East Coast by the end of the week.

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster said Hurricane Florence is gaining strength and could potentially hit as a Category 4 hurricane.

With winds at 120 km per hour, Florence became a Category 1 hurricane and is expected to develop into a major storm.
