Seven arrested for stealing more than OMR200,000 using fake cheques

Muscat: Royal Oman Police has arrested seven gang members accused of stealing more than OMR200,000 by using fake cheques.

According to officials, "The suspects were arrested on charges of fraud and the use of fake bank cheques, worth more than OMR 200,000."

"After an investigation, it was revealed that one of the gang members forged cheques abroad and sent them to Oman in order to disburse the amount through local banks, before resending the money back abroad," ROP said.

The source added that "a number of cheques intended for transfer were found in the possession of the suspects at the time of their arrest."
