Muscat: An inspection team from the Ministry of Manpower has arrested 45 illegal workers from various parts of the capital area.
According to the ministry, 40 of the workers are housemaids, found violating provisions of the Labour Law. The inspection campaigns were carried out in coordination with concerned authorities in Seeb, Al Khuwair and Qurum.
Salim Al Badi, General Director of Labour Welfare in the ministry, said: “The raid comes within the ministry's efforts to regulate the labour market and follow up the implementation of the Labour Law and to control the illegal non-Omani labour force which negatively affects the country's security and economy, and work is underway to organise similar campaigns according to the ministry's plan.”
Al Badi called on employers to ensure that expatriate workers are employed in accordance with their visas and that they do not work for other employers, and to repatriate them at the end of their employment after ensuring that all their financial dues are handed over."
The official also said that employers whose domestic workers have been caught should meet with the joint inspection team in Muscat Governorate at the earliest opportunity with the worker's documents to complete the rest of the procedures, in accordance with the Labour Law.
