6,128 applications received for trademarks, licences

Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) said that the number of applications for trademarks, commercial licences and commercial agencies during the second quarter of 2018 reached 6,128.
According to the statistics department of the ministry, the total number of trademarks, patent applications, industrial designs and copyright applications registered during the second quarter of this year was 2,511, compared with 2,166 last year.
The ministry said that the number of commercial licences, which is in the form of commercial permits, import licences and exhibition permits during the second quarter of 2018 reached 3,404 compared with the second quarter of 2017 when it was 1,993. The data indicated that the number of import licences increased during the second quarter of this year to 1,863 compared with 307 licences in the second quarter of the previous year. This is due to the increase in the export of oil and gas products and a rise in the number of licences for the export and import of petroleum products and their derivatives.
The MoCI also said that the total number of commercial agencies of all types and licences for the sale of petroleum products of all kinds, as well as professional licences of all their verities during the second quarter of 2018 reached 213 compared with the second quarter of 2017 when it was 202 licences.
