Royal Hospital implants Oman's first leadless pacemaker

Muscat: For the first time in Oman, a ‘leadless pacemaker’ was used in a surgery at the Royal Hospital, the Ministry of Health announced.
Unlike traditional pacemakers, the leadless pacemaker does not require connecting wires or a generator to maintain a suitable heart rate by sending small electrical impulses to the heart. One of the several other advantages of this pacemaker is that it also takes lesser time to implant than a traditional pacemaker.
In a statement online the Ministry of Health said, “The National Centre for Cardiac Surgery at the Royal Hospital used a heart pacemaker called the ‘leadless pacemaker’ for the first time in Oman."
