Ministry clamps down on illegal fishing practices in Oman

Muscat: The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries raided a house in Oman and confiscated 750kg of sea cucumber.
According to Ministerial decision No. 2018/69, Oman's government introduced a ban on fishing, trading and possessing sea cucumber from March 26, 2018 that lasts for one whole year.
Talking about the case the Ministry said, “The Fish Control Team in coordination with the Public Prosecution Department in the Wilayat of Mahut, managed to raid a house [where they] seized and confiscated 750 kg of sea cucumber. [The law prohibits people from] fishing [the animal]. The necessary legal measures were taken against the violators.”
The Ministry calls on everyone to abide by the Ministerial decision.
Sea cucumbers are marine animals found on the sea floor, with long, elongated bodies and leathery skin. They help maintain marine ecosystems as they recycle nutrients, breaking down and speeding up the degradation process.
