Skygazers in Oman watch Blood Moon

Muscat: The century’s longest lunar eclipse was keenly watched by people across the world, including Oman, on Friday.
The rare astronomical phenomenon, also known as a ‘Blood Moon’, was totally visible in the Middle East, India, and parts of central Asia, as well as eastern and southern Africa, according to the US Space Agency, NASA.
Shihab Al Shandodi, an Omani photographer, shot a video of the rare astronomical phenomenon. He said: “I shot a time-lapse video of the Blood Moon and lunar eclipse in the wilayat of Ibri from 11.30pm until 12am. It is a rare astronomical situation and we were keen to capture it.”
The eclipse was predicted to start at 9.14pm Gulf Standard Time (local time) on Friday, July 27, and end by 3.28am on Saturday.
A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes through the Earth’s shadow from the opposite side of the Sun.
