Muscat: Ninety-four per cent of the residents of the Sultanate are happy with the efforts made to ensure traffic safety a tweet by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) in the official account of the Directorate General of Traffic.
The tweet also showed that nine people out of every 10 are happy with the services provided and the strategies made by the ROP to reduce accidents and maintain traffic safety in the Sultanate.
According to the post, 89 per cent of citizens and 97 per cent of expatriates are satisfied with the Traffic Department's efforts.
The post also categorised the number of surveyed according to their area. Eighty-seven per cent of those surveyed in Al Buraimi and Al Wusta said there are happy while 83 per cent of those surveyed in Muscat, Musandam and Al Dhahira shared the view.
In Al Sharqiyah North, 81 per cent of the surveyed people were satisfied with the traffic safety effort made by ROP, while the figure for Dhofar was 78 per cent, Al Batinah South, 76 per cent in Al Batinah North and 75 per cent in Al Sharqiyah South.
Royal Oman Police has run a number of separate campaigns to spread awareness among citizens and residents on traffic safety.
“This is all to educate the public on traffic safety. The ROP has made many efforts to reduce the risk of due to some practices and behaviour which might lead to accidents that could even be fatal,” said Said Al H’sani, a teacher based in Muscat.
He added that the controls introduced by the ROP and the strategies adopted have helped in reaching a better traffic management in the Sultanate recent years.
“The number of accident and death were reduced and this is a clear sign for the success of the efforts made by ROP and it also shows the increase of the public awareness on traffic safety,” said Said.
