A doctor has become the first person to go on trial over a "stolen babies scandal" under Spanish dictator Franco's rule.

Dr Eduardo Vela is accused of staging the birth and falsifying the birth certificate of Ines Madrigal - the woman bringing the charges.

Ines' case is the only one that's reached trial, despite thousands of similar complaints having been filed between 1939 and 1975.

A Spanish judge recorded the cases of about 30,000 children stolen while the Fascist dictator was in power.
