Muscat: Travel agents based in Oman are expecting a bumper Eid Al Adha holiday announcement as it is expected to fall in the third week of August.
Many travel agents in Oman were at loss as the Eid Al Fitr holidays coincided with school holidays in June.
“We were not at all busy as the last Eid holidays coincided with school holidays, where a huge chunk of expatriates were out of the country,” Emdad Bachchu, an official from Akash Jatra Travel agency said.
He also said that people have started booking for next Eid Al Adha holidays which will fall around Wednesday, August 22, according to the Omani lunar calendar.
The Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs' application 'Mara Oman', shows that Eid Al Adha will fall on August 22, 2018.
Every year, Eid Al Adha falls on the 10th day of the lunar month Dhul Hijja. The day before is Arafa day which is the second day of the Islamic pilgrim Haj.
This year, Arafa Day, the 9th Dhul Hijja, 1439 AH is predicted to fall is shall be on Tuesday, 21 August 2018. Therefore, Wednesday is expected to be the first day of Eid Al Adha.
“So the holidays are expected to start from Tuesday and will go on till Saturday,” a travel agent said.
So, if you take two days off, you can get nine days holidays starting from August 17 to August 25, 2018, travel agents advised.
