City Centre Muscat unveils free electric car charging facility

Muscat: If you plan to buy an electric car or already have one, you would be able to charge your vehicle for free while you shop at the City Centre Muscat.

Majid Al Futtaim, the leading shopping mall, communities, retail and leisure pioneer across the Middle East, Africa and Asia has introduced an electric vehicle charging facility at City Centre Muscat.

Early adopters of the fast-growing automotive technology, which helps reduce harmful emissions that cause climate change, can avail of this service for free at City Centre Muscat, as part of its collaboration with Tesla. Four designated charging stations have been set up in the mall’s parking facility on Level 1.

“The government’s sustainability goals prioritise the support for electric vehicles in the Sultanate with infrastructure that will enhance convenience for early adopters. We see ourselves as their partners in driving innovation in the country and facilitating easy access to free charging units that will encourage others to consider environment-friendly modes of travel and create a culture of eco-consciousness in society,” said Husam Al Mandhari, Senior Mall Manager, Oman – Shopping Malls at Majid Al Futtaim Properties.

The designated charging stations have been secured to allow only visitors with EVs to park. Instructions on how to use the service are displayed at the stations. Customers who require further assistance can contact the traffic marshal onsite.

The initiative is part of Majid Al Futtaim’s sustainability strategy, which includes bringing innovations and convenient green solutions to its destinations to encourage the community to reduce their carbon footprint.

Shopping with young kids has also become a lot easier at City Centre Muscat with the introduction of priority parking bays exclusively for parents with babies, toddlers or young children and expectant mothers. The designated family parking bays are marked in purple, while parking spaces for expectant mothers are painted in pink.

Also, visitors no longer have to worry about where they park their cars. The car park guidance system kiosks, located at the mall’s entrances, will enable shoppers to find their vehicles easily. At the kiosks, visitors can enter their vehicle plate number on the touchscreen kiosks and click “find” to locate their car.
