Registrations open for Indian embassy's International Day of Yoga event in Oman

Muscat: Yoga enthusiasts in the Sultanate have been invited by the Embassy of India, Muscat, to participate in a grand yoga session, to be held at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre on June 21, the International Day of Yoga (IDY).
June 21 was declared as the “International Day of Yoga” (IDY) in December 2014, and India has taken the lead in celebrating it worldwide, to make people aware of the health and spiritual benefits of yoga, which is an ancient Indian tradition.
The event, which will start at 7:30pm, is open to all yoga enthusiasts and practitioners above the age of 11. The doors will open at 6.30pm and the participants have been requested to be seated by 7.15pm. Yoga T-shirts and mats will be distributed to the participants at the venue. Separate seating arrangements for ladies and children have been made.
The event will include a grand yoga session, based on a common yoga protocol, comprising simple and easy yoga postures, which can be performed by persons not familiar with yoga, under the guidance of qualified instructors.

IDY has been celebrated in Oman with great enthusiasm. Yoga has been gaining popularity in the Sultanate and the embassy has been celebrating it with the support and participation of the Government of Oman, a number of yoga organisations, as well as yoga teachers and practitioners. Last year, more than 4,500 people participated in the event.
The Indian Ministry of Ayush ( in India has been sharing the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) videos on its various social media platforms. These CYP videos can also be viewed on the Facebook and Twitter pages of the Embassy of India, Muscat.
The Embassy has also been working, together with a number of yoga organisations in Oman, to organise numerous curtain raiser yoga sessions every week at the Embassy premises to celebrate IDY 2018. Yoga sessions are also being organised in other cities, including Salalah, Sohar and Sur.
In a joint statement issued during the visit of the Prime Minister of India to Oman, from February 11 to 12, 2018, stated:
“The Omani side congratulated the Indian side for the Indian Prime Minister’s initiative in declaring June 21 as the IDY by the UN General Assembly in 2014 and thanked him for India’s efforts in making yoga popular in the world, including Oman, which is aimed at creating a healthy and peaceful world. The Indian Prime Minister thanked His Majesty the Sultan for his Government’s support in the celebration of IDY in Oman, which attracts the participation of thousands of yoga enthusiasts.”
