Muscat: Times of Oman’s radio station T FM 95.4 gave away its second Mitsubishi Pajero as part of its Ramadan campaign: Spread More Smiles.
This time, Pakistani expat Abdul Ghafoor Latif Muhammad, an electrician by profession, took away the grand prize.
“They say what’s meant to be yours will find its way to you no matter what. Team T FM 95.4 witnessed something quite extraordinary on Thursday evening while announcing the second winner of the Mitsubishi Pajero, as part of the weekly giveaway of the Ramadan Campaign – Spread More Smiles. The team huddled around the computer screen when the first number was picked out through a randomiser, dialed in, no answer. “This was repeated three times and we decided to finally move on to another number. Dialed in, and what are the odds, this one was switched off permanently,” a spokesperson of T FM said.

“With adrenaline pumping and excitement in the air, the randomiser picked out another set of digits. This time with hopes of the call being answered, Lester D’Couto, the host of the morning show on T FM 95.4, dialed another number. This time, the call was answered. What happened next will fill you with emotion through and through,” the spokesperson added.
“Abdul Gafoor, a humble electrician living in Oman for the past few years, never imagined in his wildest dreams that just two random text messages would lead him to win a brand new car.
“All he had to say was, “I believe in destiny, and if it’s written in my share, I would get it.” He refused to believe that his luck played out and he actually won,” the official said.
Taking over the conversation, Garima Bhandari, Programme Director at T FM 95.4 had a tête-à-tête with the lucky winner live on air.
“I am an electrician and the sole bread winner for a family of 10, working really hard day-in and day-out to make ends meet. My dream is to build a house for my family back home in Pakistan,” he said.
“You know, I have not seen them in three years, but this year I am going home and I am so happy that I will be able to finally put in the money I get by selling the car and building the house we all deserve,” Abdul said, with a heavy heart.
“With a somber feeling in the hearts of those present in the studios, the team agreed to the fact that week two ended on a happy note by actually being able to ‘Spread More Smiles’ and making a difference to those who genuinely need it,” the official said. “We couldn’t be happier to give away this week’s car to Abdul, he truly deserved it. We cannot thank enough the folks at Omantel and Mitsubishi who are helping us make a difference in someone’s life and spread joy.”
T FM 95.4 launched the campaign supported by Mitsubishi Pajero and Omantel, giving a chance to its listeners to win a daily cash prize of OMR100 and a Mitsubishi Pajero every week.
The aim of the initiative is to raise a substantial amount of money through the SMSs sent and contribute a part of the money to Dar Al Atta’a at the end of Ramadan.
