Suwaiq crowned Omantel League champions

Muscat: Suwaiq Club were crowned the Omantel League champions as the curtains came down on 2017-18 football season on Sunday night.
The champions, who sealed their fourth domestic title with four rounds to spare, celebrated their triumph with a well-deserved 1-0 victory over Sohar on the final day of the league.
In the match played at the Seeb Sports Stadium, Khalid Al Hajri scored the match-winner in the 51st to the delight of Suwaiq’s travelling fnas and their officials.
His Highness Sayyid Taimur bin Asad bin Tariq Al Said presented the winners’ trophy and the medals in the presence of Oman Football Association chairman Sheikh Salim Al Wahaibi and other officials.
Suwaiq ended their campaign with 63 points, well ahead of the second placed Al Shabab who garnered 42 points.
Al Shabab, however, suffered a 5-1 drubbing against Oman in their final match.
Al Nahda settled for third place with 37 points after having held Fanja to a 1-1 draw in the final outing.
The sad story of the season, however, is that of nine-time champions Fanja who were relegated to the First Division along with Al Mudhaibi and Al Salam.
In the other matches of the final day, Saham edged Al Nasr 1-0, Muscat defeated Al Arouba 2-1, Mudhaibi blanked Dhofar 2-0 and Al Salam ouplayed Mirbat for a 3-0 win.
