'Omani media should act as a game changer in Vision 2040'

Muscat: Vision 2040 Office yesterday organised a forum at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) under the theme ‘Future Media’.
The forum, which was sponsored by Dr. Abdul Munim bin Mansour Al Hassani, Minister of Information, aimed at involving the media sector in drafting this vision.
“The future of media is witnessing impressive leaps therefore the media sector is required to keep pace with such leaps by focusing on developing human resources to achieve future aspiratios, said the Minister of Information.
He added that the forum is part of the media sector preparation to keep pace with the changes witnessed by the world.
He described the forum as an ‘integrated’ project that starts from education, intellectual and cultural organisations. Vision 2040 therefore seeks to achieve integration among various stakeholders to achieve optimum future for the Sultanate.
On his part, Talal bin Sulaiman Al Rahbi, Head of the Technical Committee at Oman Vision 2040 said in a speech “the media-by all its categories- plays an essential role in demonstrating the visual image of Oman 2040 in the minds of the public, as well as keeping track with the changes in the international media.
“We look forward into seeing the Omani media as game changer in Oman 2040 by supporting the vision’s events, key issues and pillars and the use of the digital media and social media platforms to raise awareness about the accomplishments, challenges, and roles of the Omani media.”
It also included a panel discussion with participation of Dr. Abdul Munim bin Mansour Al Hassani, Minister of Information, Talal bin Sulaiman Al Rahbi, Head of the Technical Committee at Oman Vision 2040, Dr. Hamad bin Said Al Oufi , Head of National Priorities and Matching Strategies Committee at Oman Vision 2040, Abdullah bin Salem Al Salmi, Head of the Economy and Development Committee at Vision 2040, Dr. Said bin Hamad Al Rabee, Head of Man and Society Committee at Oman Vision 2040 and Khalid bin Ali Al Sunaidi, Head of the Office of Oman Vision 2040.
The panel discussion discussed the challenges facing media sector and how to prepare for them in light of changes and modern technologies witnessed by the global media sector.
The forum also aimed at raising media men awareness of their active role in creating trends that support the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
