Muscat: The Embassy of the Philippines took top spot at the ASEAN Committee in Muscat's Bowling Tournament.
More than 75 people attended the fun-filled bowling competition at the Oman Bowling Centre in Al Khuwair, with teams representing the embassies of Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand on hand. For over two hours, 48 participants battled for top spot, with the Philippines finishing in first place, Malaysia coming in second, and Thailand third.
The 2018 edition of the annual bowling tournament was organised by the embassy of Brunei Darrusalam, whose head of mission Ambassador Sulaini Said said, "This year's event was contested between ASEAN embassies in Muscat as a group to foster the spirit of teamwork and cooperation that are at the heart of ASEAN. We as one ASEAN community have shown that we can engage in so many ways to positively contribute to healthy competition such as in bowling tournaments like this one."
"I hope this event will continue to live up to its potential in the future."
The winners of several other categories received prizes as well. Indonesia's Anto Rokaryanto won best male bowler. He was joined by Malaysia's Khairul Nissa, who won the best female bowler category. Ambassador Sulaini Said took home the 'Head of Mission' prize, with a competition-high 301 points. Meanwhile, the 'Best Madame' award went to Cleofe Castaneda, wife of the Ambassador of the Philippines.
Many participants brought their families and traditional food from their home countries, creating a festive environment that showcased the rich diversity of ASEAN's member states.
Speaking to the Times of Oman, Filipino spectator Rolando said, "I love this event. I attend every year. Its a great way to have fun and connect with members of other ASEAN communities. We are like one big family and the bowling tournament really shows that."
