440 expat workers arrested by manpower ministry in a week

Muscat: The joint labour inspection teams at the Ministry of Manpower arrested 440 workers between April 29 and May 5, 2018, with 371 others being deported for violating the Labour Law.
Of these, 332 were commercial workers, 53 were agricultural workers (farmhands) and 55 were domestic workers and the like.
The ministry said in a statement: "By examining the violations of those who were caught by the inspection teams, 268 of them were runaway workers, 144 were free visa workers, and 25 workers were undocumented."
The North Batinah Governorate recorded the highest index during this period, with a number of 145 illegal workers followed by Muscat Governorate at 95. Competent authorities at the Ministry of Manpower has taken legal action against them.
On the other hand, the Ministry of Manpower deported 371 workers this week as a result of violating the Labor Law and ministerial decisions.
