Oman, Zanzibar sign agreement in the field of archiving

Muscat: The Sultanate, represented by the National Records and Archives Authority (NRAA) and the Government of Zanzibar represented by the Minister of Information, Tourism and Antiques, signed at NRAA headquarters a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries in the field of documents and archives, “memorising, digitising and exchanging copies of historical documents between NRAA and the Government of Zanzibar.
Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al Dhoyani, NRAA Chairman and Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, Zanzibar’s Minister of Information, Tourism and Antiques, signed the MoU.
The signing of the memorandum stems from the good relations between the Sultanate and the Republic of Tanzania, and the desire of the two countries to enhance and develop cooperation in the fields of documents and archives on the basis of the principle of mutual interests.
The memorandum included the preservation and restoration of all documentary stocks in Zanzibar in the archives, converting them from paper documents to digital documents, providing conditions for the exchange of copies of documents and manuscripts relating to the historical relations between Zanzibar and Oman , and promoting exchange of training courses, expert visits and research, as well as cooperation and coordination in all matters related to their activities with regional and international bodies related to the archives.
Minister of Information, Tourism and Antiques of the Government of Zanzibar was briefed on the Sultanate’s experience in the field of documents and archives through presentations submitted to him to introduce the activities of NRAA and its various works.
