Michigan: U.S. President Donald Trump took credit on Saturday for progress in talks between the Koreas as his supporters chanted "Nobel" at a rally in Michigan.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in held a landmark summit on Friday, April 27. Trump skipped the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner for the second year running, telling supporters in Washington Township on the outskirts of Detroit that he would much rather address them.
"I'd much rather be in Washington, Michigan than in Washington, D.C. right now," he said to applause.
Trump said a meeting with North Korea could happen over the next three to four weeks. And as he began talking about progress in the talks, basked in a chant of "Nobel" from the audience.
"I just want to get the job done," he said. North Korea's state news agency on Saturday called the summit a turning point for the Korean peninsula.
At the Michigan rally Trump said that some in what he called the "fake news" media had questioned how much he had actually done to push forward the Korean talks. "Like how about, everything," he said.
