17 arrested on drug charges in Oman

Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) arrested 17 people on charges of drug possession and abuse in Al Dakhiliyah and Al Dhahirah governorates.
While eight people were arrested for drug abuse and possession, nine were arrested on charges of using narcotics. In the second case police also found heroin and a number of psychotropic tablets, apart from equipment meant for drug use.
An official source from ROP said, “The Department of Anti-Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances, led by the police of Al Dakhiliyah governorate, were able to arrest eight people on charges of possession and abuse of drugs in the state of Nizwa, Samail, Bidbid and Adam.”
The official added, “The Anti-Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Department, led by the police of Dhahirah province, nabbed nine people on charges of possession and use of narcotics. Police found a number of psychotropic tablets, heroin drugs, and equipment meant for drug use.”
The defendants were referred to judicial authorities to complete the investigation.
The Royal Oman Police calls upon citizens and residents to co-operate in combating the drug scourge and to give the police any information that helps in the detection of drug smugglers and traffickers by calling 9999 or the toll-free number of the General Directorate for Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances (1444) or by going to the nearest police station.
