Muscat: A 17-km stretch of the second phase of the Ibri-Yanqul road was opened on Monday by the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
A total of OMR42,154,831, for 34 km of the road, was spent on the second phase of the Ibri-Yanqul dual carriageway.
The road was opened by Eng. Saleem bin Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications for Transport.
Officials from the Ministry said, “The new road will ease the traffic movement apart from reducing the occurrences of accidents.”
According to officials from the Roads department at the Ministry, the total cost of the first phase touched about OMR6 million.
The project includes 125 lighting poles, as well as flood water drains from the Qarn Kabsh roundabout to the roundabout linking the Al-Areedh region.
Officials also said that the road has been built keeping in mind the future increase in traffic in the governorate. This project will link a number of areas and villages in the governorate of Dahirah.
The project also includes two asphalt lanes on each side with a width of 3.75 metres, with a 2.5 metre wide asphalt external shoulder and a 1.5 metre internal shoulder.
