Chess: Syeed, Yashwant win titles in ISC Salalah tourney

Muscat: Sayeed K. K. and Yashwant Bitra won the senior and junior titles respectively in the first chess tournament of the year organised by the Indian Social Club Salalah.
The tournament, which was conducted in Swiss league format for senior and junior categories, witnessed some tough competition.
In the senior category, Syeed K. K. won the title with full four points. Shibu Vijayan and Sidharth Nottath were tied with three points each but based on Buchholz (BH) tie-break method, Shibu was awarded second place. And Sidharth had to satisfy with the third place.
The junior title went to unbeaten Yashwant Bitra who earned a total of five points. Based on BH tie-break method, Clifford and Jishnu were awarded second and third place respectively as they were tied with four points each.
“I am happy to see a large numbers of our members taking interest in this chess tournament and it encourages us to conduct such tournaments frequently,” said ISC Salalah Chairman Manpreet Singh.
