Muscat: The fisheries surveillance team in Muscat arrested a number of fishermen for violations of the law of fishing.
"The fishermen were fishing in the coastal area known locally as "Jarouf" without a license, in addition to throwing fish on the Qurum beach area," the Ministry of Agriculture and Fishers said in a statement online.
The violators have been referred to the public prosecution to complete the necessary legal procedures.
In 2017 a total of 2,857 cases of fishing violations were registered, compared to 1,931 cases in 2016. This number is only rising, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. Nonetheless, MoAF has been continuously cooperating with the Ministry of Manpower and the coastguard police to increase their supervisory efforts.
