Muscat: Sultan Qaboos University’s 16th Science Festival was inaugurated under the theme "Collaborate to Generate" on Monday, with 36 student projects and 6 scientific studies.
The festival was launched with a quirky, Rube Goldberg machine setup. Student Al Mukhtar Al Adawi said: "We took three weeks to fully equip and build the project. We used 448 domino pieces, 800 piece of wood and nine other pieces. The total length of the path from the beginning of the to the end was 18 metres, and it took a minute-and-a-half to complete."
It took four months to prepare for the festival, with about 500 students organising the annual festival. "The festival this year aims to generate projects that came from the collaboration between different science department in the college of science. We also support ideas that can enter the market and can be useful for society," Shahad Al Hanai, head of the media committee of the festival said.
The festival will be open for visitors from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm and from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at the main hall in the Cultural Centre.
