Paris: Multiple landmarks across the globe switched off their lights on Saturday, March 24, to mark the 11th annual Earth Hour and to draw attention to climate change.
Paris, London, and Athens were some of the few countries that dimmed their lights at 8:30 pm local time (2030GMT) for an hour.
The initiative began in Australia in 2007 as a grass root gesture by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Australia against man-made carbon dioxide emissions linked to a warming planet. According to the Earth Hour website, more than 7,000 cities in over 180 countries took part in the event.
