More than OMR120 million spent on social security cases until 2017 end

Muscat: Over OMR120 million was disbursed to 79,487 social security cases until the end of 2017, according to the Minister of Social Development.
Oman’s Shura Council hosted Sheikh Mohammed Al-Kalbani, Minister of Social Development, to discuss issues regarding social development, where he said over 23 Omani Women Association buildings were built in the past few years, in different provinces around the Sultanate, to help empower women in Oman.
The Shura Council also tweeted about the minister’s statement on social security payments to citizens: “The total number of social security cases up to the end of 2017 amounted to 79,487, while the disbursement amount is OMR122,945,635.”
A Shura member said: “This statement reflects the efforts of the Ministry of Social Development to serve families, people with special needs, women, children, the elderly and all the other categories.”
During the Shura Council’s ongoing 13th and 14th regular sessions of the 3rd annual sitting, eight main themes will be discussed, covering social security, relief and emergency assistance programmes, a forum for the elderly and people with disabilities, family development programmes, NGOs and social work, and development plans implemented by the social development ministry and the Social Action Strategy (2016-2025).
