Muscat: The Oman Extreme Sailing Series is the leading global sporting innovation that is transforming experiences for sailors and fans, apart from enhancing the growth of sailing in Oman, announced the global technology company SAP.
Throughout the 2018 season, SAP will be collaborating with sailors and organisers of the Extreme Sailing Series to provide new data and analytics to help teams improve their performance. Organisers are also offering insights to fans, so that they can be more informed about what is happening during the race.
“Oman’s Extreme Sailing Series is at the cutting edge of global sporting innovation,” said Waheed Al Hamaid, Country Manager, SAP Oman. “Our involvement in the sport has transformed the sailing experience by providing tools. Sailors can analyse their performance and optimise strategy, fans are closer to the action, and the media gain information and insights to deliver a better-informed commentary.”
SAP Sailing Analytics utilises cloud and in-memory SAP HANA technology, processing GPS and wind measurement data in real-time and then visualising contents through the use of live leader boards and 3-D visualisations. In 2012, SAP became the Official Technical Partner of the Extreme Sailing Series.
“The work SAP is doing in the world of sailing is exciting for the sport and we are thrilled to continue working together to transform the sailing experience for sailors, spectators and media and make it more accessible and engaging,” said Andy Tourell, Event Director, Extreme Sailing Series.
SAP is the title sponsor of the SAP Extreme Sailing Team, improving race and training performances.
“The ability to review and analyse our performance between acts has proved invaluable this season – from race to race we are able to identify areas where we can make improvements and optimise our strategy and planning,” said Rasmus Kostner, Co-Skipper, SAP Extreme Sailing Team.
