3 companies fined for violating Oman’s consumer protection law

Muscat: The courts of first instance in the states of Izki and Bahla issued three judgments against commercial establishments for violating the Consumer Protection Law.
The first sentence was against one an office that recruited and supplied domestic help in the Wilayat of Bahla, where the institution did not comply with the guarantee and return of the amount paid to the institution since the maid refused to work in the complainant’s house.
The court convicted the defendant of the offence for non-compliance with proper service and punishable by a fine of OMR100.
The second sentence was the result of a complaint by a consumer, who had contracted a private enterprise to install windows, doors and kitchen furniture. After the installation, the complainant noticed that the work was not done well.
The court ruled that the defendant was guilty of a lack of commitment to transparency and credibility, and for not executing the agreement properly, and fined OMR250.
In the third case, the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) received a complaint from a consumer, who had agreed with a commercial institution in the state of Izki to work on the insulator water on the roof of his house. However, a leakage of water appeared in the ceiling of the third floor, and when the consumer demanded the complainant institution reimburse him, but the company rejected the claim.
After an investigation the court convicted the defendant of a lack of commitment to service, and issued a fine of OMR100.
The Public Authority for Consumer Protection calls on all merchants and suppliers to abide by the provisions of the Consumer Protection Law and its regulations, and to abide by transparency and credibility, and to avoid false and misleading advertising when promoting goods and services.
