Arab foreign ministers discuss regional issues

Cairo: The 149th Session of the Arab Foreign Ministers Council, chaired by Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, opened on Wednesday at the headquarters of the Arab League.
The Sultanate is participating in the session with a delegation led by Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs.
The session discusses several items, including the Arab-Israeli conflict, the activation of the Arab Peace Initiative, developments in Syria, Libya and Yemen and the request of the State of Southern Sudan to join the Arab League.
The session also discusses the report of the Secretary-General of the Arab League on the activity of the Secretariat and the procedures for the implementation of the Council's decisions between the two sessions (148-149) and the date of the 150th ordinary session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level.
The session discusses the Arab National Security in Africa, supporting peace and development in the Sudan, supporting Somalia and the Comoros, peaceful settlement of the Eritrean-Djibouti border dispute, and the dangers of Israeli armaments to Arab national security and International peace and the establishment of a nuclear-weapon-free zone and other weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East.
It also discusses the results of the open-membership committee at the level of Permanent Representatives for the development of the Arab League and its working groups, as well as the report and recommendations of the Standing Committee for Legal Affairs last February 20th.
