Muscat: Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel), the leading provider of integrated telecommunications services in the Sultanate, has partnered with Huawei to drive its smart city strategy in Oman. To start with, the smart city initiative will be launched in Al Mouj Muscat, the first integrated tourism complex in Oman.
The launch of the smart city initiative is in line with the ‘Omantel 3.0’ strategy, which aims to revolutionise smart living and working digital services by enhancing security and improving business efficiencies, as well as revamping end user experiences across the many facets of the community. The strategy reinforces Omantel’s position as the digital partner of choice for public and private sectors, enabling digital societies to flourish and grow across all industries and corners of Oman, a company release said.
As part of a complete smart services roadmap, the opening phase commences with state-of-the-art security solutions. This includes full-fledged advanced analytics and integrated camera capabilities connected via a unified control system and a smart software platform with complex algorithms to enable a wide range of threat and pattern triggers and detection alerts, such as license plates and facial features. Future phases include smart energy and utility management along with community portal informatics and smart parking to list a few services.
