Muscat: With the world celebrating International Day of Civil Defence today, March 1, Oman's Public Authority for Civil Defence has released this video and infographic detailing the work that has been done in the field, since 1970.
The Sultanate witnessed a major development in the fire extinguishing system since the Renaissance, from a single Land Rover fire vehicle in the 1970, to 53 centres providing civil defence services in various governorates of the Sultanate.
In 1970 there was one fire vehicle in Muscat with two municipal employees, and in 1972 the first fire brigade was established in the Sultanate.
The civil defence sector continued to develop, when in 1991, the Civil Defence Law was promulgated by a Royal Decree. And In 2003, a decree was issued to establish an emergency unit to provide emergency services for those injured in accident sites.
