Muscat: The role of scientific research in supporting economic development was one of the items on the agenda of a meeting of the Education and Research Committee at the State Council on Tuesday.
The discussion took place when the Committee hosted Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al Hina’ei, Secretary General of The Research Council (TRC), Sayyid Dr. Fahd bin Al Julanda Al Said, TRC Assistant Secretary General for Innovation Development and Dr. Idris bin Saleh Al Rahbi, Head of Planning and Studies Department at TRC.
The hosting comes within the framework of the committee’s study to the role of education in supporting the knowledge-based economy. This was the committee’s 6th meeting of the third annual sitting for the 6th term, which was held under the chair of Dr. Abdullah bin Mubarak Al Shanfri, Head of the Committee.
It discussed a number of themes with TRC officials, such as the role of scientific research in supporting the march of economic development and promoting the transition towards knowledge-based economy by building an advanced system of scientific research and innovation, integrating the education strategy, the scientific research strategy and the national strategy of innovation to enhance the orientation towards the knowledge based economy, as well as adopting enhanced scientific methods for the knowledge based economy. The meeting also discussed TRC efforts to achieve its vision, of making Oman a regional innovation hub.
