Cricket: Taurus, Global United, Jotun make winning start

Muscat: Riding on vital performances by Rajubhai Desai and Mujahid Surve, Taurus XI defeated Aster Hospital by 35 runs in a Junior Cup Knockout match at Muscat Municipality Ground III in Al Amerat on Friday.
Invited to bat first, Taurus scored 157 for nine in 20 overs thanks to Prakash Chirag’s 34 and Chatrapal Sisodia’s 31. Faisal Pokkakkilath claimed three wickets, all in one over, while Adi Raja and Umer Rehman bagged two each.
Reeling at 47 for four, Aster Hospital could collect only 122 for nine in 20 overs. Faisal Pokkakkilath topscored with 29 while Ravi Bamdev contributed 24. Mujahid Surve took three wickets while Adhar Rajubhai Desai claimed two.

Ibrar inspires Global United
In another Junior Cup match, Ibrar Hussain’s strokeful 60 off 36 balls led Global United to a comfortable 23-run victory against OCT Al Nahdha at Muscat Municipality Ground IV.
Batting first, Global United posted a robust 173 for seven in 18 overs in a shortened game due to late start. Amjad Ali Javed (32) and Shoab Mohammed (31) were the other notable scorers. Khalid Moosa bagged three wickets while Riyadh Al Balushi took two.
OCT Al Nahdha got off to great start but a sudden batting collapse saw it slump to 118 for seven after being happily placed at 88 for one.
Finally, 150 was all they could gather before being bundled out in 16.5 overs. Mohammed Al Balushi was the main scorers with 27 off 26. Iftikhar Ahmed and Zahid Mahmood bagged three wickets each while Adeel Mazhar took two.

Predviraj lifts Jotun
Predviraj’s four-wicket spell powered Jotun to a big 73-run win over Sketch International in a Junior Cup Knockout game at OAC Ground III in Al Seeb.
Asked to bat first, Jotun hit up 175 for nine in 20 overs thanks to Amal Raj’s 33 and Sanith Nair’s 24. Daman bagged three wickets for Sketch.
Facing a sizeable total to chase, Sketch crumbled under immense pressure, folding up for 102 in 15.3 overs as Predviraj ran through the side. Renju Radhakrishna and Vineesh Raj took two wickets each. Ammar (34) and Daman (31) were the only notable scorers.
