Oman Air announces competition for designing amenity kits

Muscat: First and business-class passengers travelling on long haul flights to and from Muscat on Oman Air will soon be able take home a piece of art as the national carrier has invited Oman’s artists and designers to create brand new amenity kits.
Oman Air announced the competition, which will see Omani artists and designers submit their designs for new amenity kits that express Omani heritage, culture, creativity and innovation.
The invitations were issued to Omani craftsmen registered with the Public Authority of Handicrafts, a member of the Sidab Women’s Group and Omani members of the Omani Society for Fine Arts.
“When our customers take our current amenity kits, they reuse it as bags for themselves or they get thrown away,” said Abdul Aziz Al Raisi, executive vice president of Products and Brand Development, Oman Air.
“We want people to take home the new kits and keep them as souvenirs. The new kits will compliment the first and business classes which are being revamped,” he added.
Designers have until May 23 to submit their designs and it can be as many designs as they like. Designs must be submitted to the supply chain management of Oman Air, from which three winning designs will be shortlisted for each of the first and business class. The designs will be chosen by an expert panel.
“When first and business-class passengers fly with us, they won’t always get the same looking kit. They will always get something different than the last time,” explained Al Raisi.
“Oman Air will seek to purchase the intellectual property rights for these designs and a renowned international manufacturer will then be invited to bring these designs to reality thus giving the design and their owner a significant international status,” said Al Raisi. He also added that the name of the designer will be inscribed on the inside of the kit.
“Oman Air continues to support and develop projects aimed at preserving that heritage and traditions,” said Al Raisi.
