Muscat: Mebel Manoj Varghese won the under-10 singles crown at the Annual Badminton Tournament organised by the Indian Social Club (ISC).
In the final of the tournament, jointly sponsored by Clarion Group of Companies and Al Jizzi Company, Mebel powered his way to a convincing 21-3, 21-7 victory over Seban Prasad.
Mebel dominataed the final from start to finish not giving Seban any liberties. In contrast, Seban put in a below-par display and failed to repeat the heroics which had seen him overcome fancied Bhoomika Gautam in the semifinal.
The duo of Harshpreet Singh and Joshua Reji clinched the junior doubles title.
In the final, the top seeds rallied from a game down and played with good understanding to script a brilliant 16-21, 21-17, 21-18 victory over Aaron Aju and Mohamed Saleh.
After losing the first game, Harshpreet and Joshua overcame an early deficit and showed good teamwork to regain the advantage and won the second game to level at one-game-all.
The keen tussle continued as Aaron and Saleh continued to put the top seeds under pressure with some brilliant play. Harshpreet and Joshua held their ground and maintained a slender lead which saw them through to claim the junior doubles title, giving Joshua, the winner of the boys under-13 title, his second title of the tournament.
Chacko Vincent advanced to the final of the veterans singles after rallying from a game down to defeat Manoj Varghese in a three-set marathon 21-23, 21-13, 21-19.
