Football: Lebanon’s Al Ansar blank Dhofar in AFC Cup

Muscat: Failing to take advantage of playing at home, Oman’s Dhofar Club suffered a disappointing defeat against Lebanon’s Al Ansar in their opening match of the AFC Cup in Salalah on Tuesday.
According to news posted on Asian Football Confederation website, in the Group C match played at the Al Saada Sports Complex, Al Ansar handed the hosts a 2-0 defeat.
Al Ansar needed just under ten minutes to move in front, as midfielder Hassan Chaitou stunned the home fans with a powerful left-footed strike from outside the area that nestled into the back of the net.
The best chance of the first half for the home side came in the 15th minute through Motaz Salih who got on the end of a Vinicius Calamari cross and fired with his left from inside the box, but goalkeeper Rabea El Kakhi stood tall to hold on the shot and keep his side ahead at the break.
Another long-range strike secured Al Ansar’s win in added time of the second half. This time, it was Alaa El Baba who tried his luck from 30 yards out, and his effort left goalkeeper Riyadh Al Alawi in no man’s land as the Lebanese side took home the three points.
In their next matches to be played on February 27, Al Ansar host Jordan’s Al Faisaly, while Dhofar play away against Syria’s Al Wahda.
