Majlis Al Shura committee discusses permits for wells in farm land

Muscat: A mechanism to determine the places where permits are given to dig wells in agricultural lands was discussed by the Majlis Al Shura’s Committee of Services and Social Development.
The Committee hosted a number of officials from the Ministry of Housing, the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries within the framework of discussing the issue of digging wells in agricultural lands.
The meeting was headed by Dr. Hamoud bin Ahmed Al Yahyai, Head of the Committee and in the presence of Eng. Ali bin Zahir Al Abri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources and members of the Committee.
During the meeting, the mechanism was discussed to determine the places where permits are given to dig wells in agricultural lands, and the necessary environmental and engineering standards and requirements to be considered for drilling, upgrading, maintaining or replacing wells, licences for drilling wells, increasing their capacity and maintenance or changing the purposes of their use.
The meeting also discussed the considerations put forward by the concerned ministries of the border wilayats to allow them to issue permits for drilling wells and the pacts regulating this matter.
