Muscat Festival is hosting awareness campaigns at Amerat Park and Naseem Garden. Oman Cancer Association (OCA) at Amerat Park is offering free check-ups using new advanced technologies. The president of OCA, Dr Wahid Al Kharusi, noted, “The response from the public was very good.” The association has an X-Ray machine for the check-ups. “It’s an important part of the awareness campaign and provides a service to the public,” Al Kharusi added. The OCA has been offering such free check-ups since 2009.

The Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance (PACDA) awareness drive is being held at both Naseem Gardens and Amerat Park. The campaign has various activities for children. First Lieutenant at PACDA Al Julanda Mohammed Al Balushi explained, “There is a tent at Naseem Gardens for PACDA, and a special corner opposite the heritage village in Amerat.” PACDA is hosting various activities, such as stage performances and a colouring competition, which were announced on social media. “Children can participate, and only three drawings will be selected; the overall winner will receive a prize,” Al Julanda remarked. The results of the competition are announced on Saturdays. The stage activities are aimed at teaching the children and adults how to deal with dangerous situations, whether at work, school or home, and to build public awareness on safety rules.

The Royal Oman Police also held a drug abuse awareness exhibition. The Anti-Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Department aims to raise awareness on the dangers of drugs and their negative effects. One of the visitors, Malik Al Harthi, stated, “It’s really interesting and an eye opener.”
