Muscat: Ninth Muscat International Film Festival (MIFF) organised by Oman Film Society (OFS) opened at Grand Hormuz Hotel on Monday under the auspices of Dr Suad bint Mohammed Al Lawatiyah, Deputy Chairman of the State Council in the presence of a number of officials and art and cinema professionals from Oman and beyond.
Dr. Khalid bin Abdul Raheem Al Zadjali, Chairman of OFS and chairman of MIFF in his speech pointed out that investment in cinema may be more lucrative than any other business. He added that the Sultanate is known for its diverse geography, thus may be used in shooting films. This can play an important role in promoting the tourism potentials in the Sultanate.
The ceremony included a video on the films staking part at the Festival namely 11 dramas, 13 short films, 9 documentary and 3 films for watch only. Twelve Omani films are taking part in the Omani Film Forum Competition, in addition to 19 films outside the competition (watch only). The ceremony included song performances in four languages and a performance of music on violin.
At the end of the opening ceremony, the Deputy Chairman of State Council and chief guest honored Bosi, Samir Sbri and Kareem Abdul Aziz, from Egypt.
MIFF will include a number of training courses and seminars by guests of the festival.
