Indian Social Club, Sohar to hold committee elections in mid-March

Muscat: Indian Social Club, Sohar (ISCS) announced on Tuesday that it will hold elections on March 16 to select its 12-member executive committee.
The voting will take place between 6pm and 9pm in the Al Nahdha Garden at the club’s temporary office in Sohar. The last date for filing the nomination forms is February 16.
Chairman of the ISCS Rajiv Tandon made the announcement about the election. Members must bring their resident card or passport on the day of voting as proof of identity. In the case of a family membership, either of the spouses can vote, but only one vote per family will be allowed.
The 12 candidates who secure the highest number of votes will be elected to the executive committee for a two-year term. Moreover, it is mandatory to have one female member on the board.
The presiding officer, Abraham George, CEO of Sohar-based Godrej and Khimji, will have a casting vote in case of a tie. After the election, the committee will decide on the office bearers.
Members who have completed two consecutive years of membership with the ISCS as of December 31, 2017, will be eligible for election.
People who have registered as club members before December 31, 2017, will be eligible to vote and propose or second a candidate.
The application form for election to the post of executive committee member of the ISCS is available on the club’s website www.iscsohar.com or can be obtained from the presiding officer. Voters can also mail a request to [email protected] for the application form.
The completed application form, along with a photocopy of the individual’s valid passport, a photocopy of both sides of the resident card, and two passport photos, must be submitted to the presiding officer.
The names of the candidates will be displayed by February 23. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is March 2.
